Wines like the Ojai Chardonnay “Bien Nacido Vineyard” 2021 make me wonder why anyone should pay more. I mean, from an iconic single vineyard, winemaking second to none (owner/winemaker Adam Tolmach knows a thing or two hundred), outstanding vintage. C’mon man at $35 this is hardly fair!
Ojai Chardonnay Bien Nacido Vineyard 2021 Review by Outer Space Wines
“Bien Nacido” lies in the heart of Santa Barbara wine country in the Santa Maria Valley AVA. Morning fog followed by soothing sunshine makes for perfect ripening. The wine boasts soul-satisfying richness and precise cut of acidity. Like hard lemon candies, dried green apple slices, nutmeg, honey-roast almonds, juicy pears, lemon zest. Drink it with most any food, but to maximize the goodness have it with grilled swordfish and a lemon/butter/almond sauce and roasted potatoes.
And if you want another expert opinion, this is from Jeb Dunnuck: “The Ojai Bien Nacido 2021 comes from one of the Grand Cru sites in California. It has a classic style in its more honeyed orchard, musky orange, and pear-like fruits. Moreso there is a chalky minerality and spice-driven nuances. Beautifully textured on the palate, it has a forward, supple mouthfeel, terrific balance, and a clean finish. Drink this any time over the coming decade.”
