Showing focused dark red cherry, plum sauce and raspberry liqueur, the 2006 Pella Cabernet is keenly focused and impressively fresh 15 years post-harvest. Cedar, cassis and cigar wrapper aromas complement the lovely, deep fruits. Bottle age gifts the wine with the slightest cremini mushroom umami-ness that will assuredly develop over time. While on its long plateau of optimal drinking, the consumer has the option to drink tonight or hold until the 2030s. While I can’t justify a higher value rating for this wine, in context of quality Napa Cab with bottle age, the Pella 2006 is a very good value.

Pella Cabernets are owned & made by the miniscule “mom & pop” KNA Winery. Pella is their daughter. KNA recently released a five year vertical, 2003 to 2007, of “Star Lane” Cabernet from Rutherford, Napa Valley floor. I’m a particular fan of this 2006 as well as the Pella 2003.
