Friday 9.12.25 – Rare Gems from Portugal

For over a century, the Bussaco Palace Hotel in Portugal has been quietly producing some of the country’s most fascinating wines—wines that almost no one outside the hotel ever had the chance to taste. Since 1917, they’ve crafted just three wines each year—a white, a red, and a rosé—blending grapes from both Dão and Bairrada (a rebellious move in Portugal’s tightly regulated system). The red is typically a mix of Baga and Touriga Nacional, while the white features Encruzado, Bical, and Maria Gomes.

These wines were once served exclusively in the hotel’s dining room—you couldn’t even buy a bottle to take upstairs. With their elegant, age-worthy style and legendary scarcity, they’ve become a cult treasure for insiders. Only recently have tiny quantities been exported, making this an incredibly rare chance to taste them in California.
