An outstanding Rosé by any measure, the Brockmeyer Rosé of Grenache 2021 has a Provence-like orange/peach skin color, watermelon rind, pink rose petals and cracked black pepper aroma and very dry peach, wild strawberry and crushed oyster shell flavor. Its backbone of acidity, deep core of fruit, texture on the back end and spiciness throughout makes for an intriguing, delicious wine. For what it’s worth, I think Grenache makes, by far, the best Rosé wines. Here’s a case in point.
Sourced from 125 year old (!) Grenache vines in Fresno (see pic below, and here’s a drone flyover of the vineyard). The vineyard has been in the family since the 1940s. Long-time Napa resident Richard Brockmeyer and son Brett (Napa Valley winemaker, recently moved to Walla Walla to continue his career) quickly discovered these old Grenache vines make really good Rosé, so that’s all they make. Not only is the wine tasty and a great value, it is also a unique, engaging story.
