A blend of 49% Grenache, 19% Mourvédre & 32% Counoise from, and by, the mystical “Alder Springs Vineyard” in northern Mendocino County. Reminds me of a Northern Rhone Valley Syrah in its cigar wrapper, black olive, rosemary and raw lamb leg smells and flavors (oak too…the 14% new French oak frames the “wildness” of the wine nicely). Blueberries, red currants and dried figs come forth in the taste. In the end, the fruit and the savory spice/earth qualities marry nicely. Medium body, medium-high acidity and healthy, softened tannins. I call this “old world style” with the exception of the noticeable barrel influence.
