The 2019 Surcos Tempranillo is loaded with blackberry and black cherry fruitiness along with some cocoa, tobacco, clove and maybe a little bit of black olive. Tasty frame of oak as 2 of the 4 barrels made were new French. On the back end the wine is very smooth with the fruit staying in the foreground. Pair this easy-to-like, very good value Napa red as you would a smooth Cabernet: red meats, pork. Also a really good match with red tomato sauces.
Owner/winemaker Luies Gallegos launched Surcos (literally translates to grooves, also means vineyard rows) in 2019. A first generation American, his father came to Napa Valley for a better life and raise a family. Luies and his family have done great and the future looks bright for him and his new wine brand. I enjoyed all his wines at our tasting and am particularly taken with his Tempranillo.
