Since 1917\, they’ve crafted just three wines each year—a white\, a red\, and a rosé—blending grapes from both Dão and Bairrada (a rebellious move in Portugal’s tightly regulated system). The red is typically a mix of Baga and Touriga Nacional\, while the white features Encruzado\, Bical\, and Maria Gomes. \nThese wines were once served exclusively in the hotel’s dining room—you couldn’t even buy a bottle to take upstairs. With their elegant\, age-worthy style and legendary scarcity\, they’ve become a cult treasure for insiders. DESCRIPTION:Taste a dozen wines from the country of Georgia\, Friday\, March 21st from 5-8pm at Outer Space. \nGeorgia has an 8000 year old winemaking tradition that has all of the elements we love when it comes to wine: unique\, indigenous grapes\, idiosyncratic winemaking methods\, and regional diversity. The country is roughly the size of New Jersey\, but has a huge mountain range (the Caucus Mountains)\, coastal influence (the Black Sea)\, and borders Turkey and is only 100 miles from Iran. Most of the wines are made in clay amphora buried underground called qvevri. (Sometimes the flight will include a highly-rated Cabernet Sauvignon from another region or country.) Sit down to a flight of Cabs from AVAs  Oakville\, Mt. Veeder\, St. Helena\, Howell Mountain\, Diamond Mountain\, Rutherford and Coombsville (rotating selection). \nOuter Space Wines’ Owner Dan Dawson (the first-ever sommelier at The French Laundry) will begin the tasting with a short lesson on what makes Napa Valley unique and special for growing Cabernet Sauvignon\, then guide you through the tasting\, wine by wine. \nTaste great\, distinctive and rare Napa Cabernet Sauvignons and learn more about what makes them great from one of Napa Valley’s best wine experts and teachers. Wines poured will be available for purchase in limited amounts. \nThe Galactic Cabernet Tasting is offered Wednesday through Sunday at 1 PM. It will end by 1:50 which gives you time for another wine tasting on that day.
