DESCRIPTION:On Friday\, April 17th from 5-8pm for a tasting and Masterclass on the wines from Evangelho Vineyard in Contra Costa\, California. \nIn collaboration with the Historic Vineyard Society\, a non-profit dedicated to the preservation of California’s historic vineyards\, we have gathered 8 wines from this unique vineyard to see what makes it so compelling. \nEvangelho Vineyard\, tucked into the sandy delta of Contra Costa County\, is one of California’s most important living relics of 19th-century viticulture—a site planted in the 1890s by Portuguese farmers and preserved against nearly impossible odds as development swallowed the surrounding farmland. Its significance isn’t just age\, but survival: own-rooted\, head-trained vines—many over 120 years old—still grow in deep\, phylloxera-resistant beach sand\, a rare\, nearly extinct model of how California vineyards once looked and functioned. \nWhat makes these old vines so compelling is the combination of genetic diversity\, struggle\, and equilibrium—a true field blend of Zinfandel\, Carignane\, Mourvèdre\, and more\, with roots plunging 30–40 feet into the sand\, dry-farmed and untouched by modern replanting or irrigation.
